Attention Getter:

Object lesson time :) This one came from my sweet hubby.

Fun LDS Object Lesson

Set up four cups and three knives as shown in the picture (your knives can’t be touching your cups and your cups should form an equilateral triangle

Fun LDS Object Lesson

Your goal is to use the three knives and the fourth cup to help a toy reach an invisible flag that is one stacked cup above the center of the triangle. Rules: You can move the knives but you can’t move the three cups making the triangle.

Fun LDS Object Lesson

Remember, the elevated plane is as high as two stacked cups and in the middle of the triangle – let the fun begin.

Fun LDS Object Lesson

When everyone has given up figuring it out – show them how to do it – take the knives and interlock them together to create a platform

Fun LDS Object Lesson

Here’s what it looks like up close, you might have to fiddle a little but it isn’t hard to do.

Fun LDS Object Lesson

And ta-dah your ducky has reached his goal. The object lesson: The cups that make the triangle represent situations in life that we can’t change. The knives represent keeping the commandments, interlocking the knives represents the covenants we make with our Heavenly Father. By following Heavenly Father’s commandments and by making and keeping sacred covenants we can abide in His Territory.

The Meat:

Discuss as a family different ways to abide in the Lord’s territory. What are the covenants that we make with Heavenly Father? How can you know if you are abiding in the Lord’s territory or not? Read the following quote from the talk:

“The Light of Christ together with the companionship of the Holy Ghost must help us determine if our manner of living is placing us in the Lord’s territory or not. If our attitudes are good, they are inspired of God, for every good thing comes from God. However, if our attitudes are bad, we are being influenced by the enemy because he persuades men to do evil.”

Closing Song:

Lead Kindly LightHymn # 97

And end with a prayer! I hope this FHE goes as well for you as it did for us :) Remember it’s all just ideas, you can pick and choose what might be helpful for your family.

Disclaimer: I’m not an official representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Everything here is my opinion. I’m just a normal Mormon mommy hoping what I post can help myself and others as we seek to reach our potential :)
