The story of Mary Goble, a teenage pioneer

Opening Hymn:

Come Come Ye Saints – Hymn # 30

Raspberry Lemonade

Attention Getter:

For the attention Getter tell the story of Mary Goble. This young girl traveled west with her family, sacrificing everything for religious freedom and her Heavenly Father. Tell the story of how she lost her toes, but because of her faith in Brigham Young’s promise was able to keep her feet. Discuss how the sacrifices of the mormon pioneers still affect us today.

The Meat:

For this weeks activity, I thought it would be a good idea to discuss as a family how you can sacrifice through service. This could be small sacrifices you make throughout the week, or a planned family service project. Choose what works for your family at this time in your life.

Some ideas for a service project –

go to the temple, plan and prepare a meal for someone in need, spend an afternoon playing games with an elderly friend (or someone you know is lonely), go to a soup kitchen and help serve food, help a family in need get ready for school to start by purchasing notebooks and school supplies for them, mow a neighbors lawn, weed a neighbors garden (be careful to only weed weeds!), make cookies for someone new in the neighborhood, put on medical gloves and pick up trash in your neighborhood.

Good luck with your service!

Closing Song:

I Stand All Amazed Hymn # 193
