So I made these cute little magnets for mothers day. I wrote messages on the petals of the flowers and my mothers loved it! I know I missed the boat on posting this in time for mother’s day, but these are still gorgeous little magnets that can make great gifts or party favors any time of the year.
So, the bulk of the tutorial comes from another tutorial. Why reinvent the wheel when there are already so many amazing paper roses out there? I spent a long time looking, and I think this is the best one. I’ll include a few tips to make the rose making easier.
Materials: pretty paper, a glue gun and glue stick, a gel pen, a strip of magnet tape
Total Cost: Less than a dollar each – easy
1. fold your paper to make cutting the leaves faster and easier.
2. Write your messages on the petals. You can do one word at a time or several. I learned that the most visible messages come just before the tip of the paper.
3. Use something long and skinny to shape your petals. I used a barbecue skewer, but a chopstick, knitting needle, or crochet hook would work equally well.
4. Fold excess paper into a thick rectangle and hot glue it to the back of your rose. Take a small strip of magnet tape and put it directly on the rectangle. Give it a few hours before using so the magnet adhesive has time to really stick to the paper – or just hot glue the magnet on, that works too ;)
And that’s it! Beautiful magnet roses with lovely messages. Place it at mom’s eye level for a nice surprise.
I love putting pretty things on the fridge!
